I've always loved good historical fiction. If it is well done, it can create a strong connection to events and places long gone by. In my quilts, I attempt to do something that is very challenging: to evoke some sense and feeling for an historical past using geometric design. Many of the design bands are taken from the patterns sewn into clothing by the Seminoles in the 1920's, but also have been found in the artifacts of most civilizations since the beginning of human time. Most of the quilts incorporate a dozen or so fabrics, and integrating them into a whole that captures the historical mood can take 40-60 hours. Hopefully the name that I give the finished quilt will inspire the viewer to learn more about that particular time and place.
